Big Bad Wolf Megaways Review

The original Big Bad Wolf has long since been established as Quickspin’s most iconic release, and they’ve certainly taken their sweet time with this Megaways upgrade. A Christmas reskin was released last year, but both of those will probably be all but forgotten once players sink their teeth into this volatile, steroid-injected beast of a follow-up.

Visually, the Megaways version tops the already prize-winning original, and the wolf now figures on the reels as the top-tier premium worth 50x for 6-oak. The brick-house piggie is worth only 6x in comparison, but all 3 can turn wild via the Tumble Reels feature. The bonus round now comes with a progressive win multiplier, as well as multiplier upgrade possibilities. This is pretty much the perfect version of this game, and we don’t see how it can be topped.

Big Bad Wolf Megaways Features

The Tumbling Reels feature (known as Swooping Reels in the original) makes sure all winning symbols are literally blown off the grid. This makes room for new winning symbols to drop into the gaps, and the process repeats as long as you keep winning. You have regular toolbox wilds that can land on reels 2 to 4 to help you out in that regard, but Tumbling Reels can also trigger the Piggy Wild feature.

This was known as “Pigs turn Wild” in the original game, and one pig symbol is turned wild for every second tumbling reels win.

The piggy wilds will also land on reels 2 to 4 only, and they revert back to regular symbols between spins.

You need 3 Full Moon scatters anywhere in sight to trigger the Blowing Down the House Bonus Round. This awards 11 free spins, and the progressive win multiplier starts at x1 and increases by +1 for every win and tumbling win. You will also collect Moon Scatter during the feature, and this is how you blow down one house and move on to the next. It also awards the following benefits:

  • Collecting 3 scatters gives you +3 free spins and increases the win multiplier by +5.
  • Collecting 6 scatters gives you +3 free spins and increases the win multiplier by +10.
  • All scatters collected after 6 awards +1 spin for each scatter collected.

If you find yourself in the right jurisdiction, you can purchase the Bonus Round for 90x your stake. This option is not available for UK players however, but it improves the RTP by 0.39 %.

The 200 Spins Big Bad Wolf Megaways Experience

You get to see some tumbling reel payouts in the base game, before we purchase the bonus round at 0:45 into the 5-minute highlights video.

Review Summary

The only negative thing about the Big Bad Wolf Megaways version, is the fact that it renders the award-winning original game obsolete. You might wanna play it, or the Christmas Special, solely for nostalgic pleasure, but this steroid-injected version blows the 2 previous installments out of the water in all possible ways. The concept could not mesh better with the licenced engine, and now you have an eye (or should we say mouth) watering 30,540x potential to keep you motivated.

Visually, the game has also been improved, adding to the already excellent presentation offered by the original. Up to 117,649 win ways and the piggy wild feature keeps the base game interesting, while waiting to trigger the climactic Blow Down the House bonus round. Quickspin has wisely not tried to “reinvent the reel” with this release, and the transition to the “big format” feels totally effortless and smooth.

Pros

  • Top sliding reel and up to 117,649 win ways
  • Turn pigs wild for every second tumble win
  • Big bad wolf is now a high paying symbol
  • FS w/ win multiplier and multiplier upgrade
  • Win up to 30,540x your stake
  • Bonus buy option for 90x (not UK)

Cons

  • Beware of customizable RTP ranges

If you love Big Bad Wolf Megaways you should also try:

Big Bad Wolf Christmas Special - is a seasonal reskin of the original game, and it’s well worth trying just to see how scary the big bad wolf looks in his Santa outfit. Swooping Reels turn pigs wild here too, and you can win up to 1,268x your stake from the blow down the house bonus round.

Piggy Riches Megaways - is about another kind of piggies, namely the filthy rich kind. This is a highly popular Red Tiger follow-up release, and it comes with an unlimited progressive multiplier bonus round.

You will also benefit from multiplier wilds, and you can win up to 10,474.5x your stake.

The Dog House Megaways - is a fun and popular follow-up release from Pragmatic Play, but there is no way to blow down the house here. The big highlights are the sticky wilds and raining wilds bonus rounds, and you can win as much as 70,000x your stake in this canine-themed installment.
