Links of Ra Review

Microgaming partner, Slingshot Studios, has had solid and well-deserved success with their excellent and branded GoT effort, Game of Thrones Power Stacks. Links of Ra is a very similar game except for the ancient Egypt theme, as both the math model and the features are almost identical. The Power Stack feature triggers at random times here though, and not on all spins.

The animal deity symbols are a nice touch, and it makes this otherwise overused theme a bit more refreshing. Overall, the visual presentation is polished, and it’s a decent alternative for players craving yet another trip to the Giza plateau. You kind of feel like you’re missing out when the Link&Win feature isn’t triggered from within the bonus round though, as the ladder effectively doubles all cash coin prizes and jackpots.

The game logo wild steps in for all regular pay symbols to help complete winning combinations, and it pays 25x your stake for 5 of a kind wins. In comparison, the regular premium symbols pay between 5 and 7.5 x your stake for the same.

On random spins the Power Stacks feature may trigger, and this means that a randomly chosen regular pay symbol will land Super Stacked. The super stacked symbols can appear on all reels, but wilds or scatters cannot land super stacked.

The Bonus Round is triggered when you land 3 scatters on the same spin, and this awards 15 free spins.

The bonus round plays out similar to the base game, with the important difference that all wins are boosted by the global x2 multiplier and that wilds tend to land stacked.

You need at least 6 coin symbols in view to trigger the Link&Win feature, and this locks the triggering coin symbols in place on an otherwise cleared grid. You get 3 respins, and landing new sticky coins resets the respins tally to 3 again. If the feature is triggered from the base game, the coins are worth 1 to 15 x your stake.

In addition to the summed up coin payout you get when the feature ends, you can also win 4 different jackpots. These are the Mini, Minor, Major and Grand jackpots, and they pay 20, 100, 500 and 2,500 x your stake, respectively. If the Link&Win feature is triggered within the bonus round however, all coin prizes and jackpots are doubled.

The Grand Jackpot is then worth 5,000x your stake, and it’s won if you fill the grid with sticky coins.

Review Summary

For new players who’re just discovering the hold-and-win style game, Links of Ra will probably look exciting and fun. It’s different when you’ve seen and played countless similar games only in the last few months. The ancient egypt visual presentation is solid enough, but you’re still dealing with a somewhat inferior remake of Slingshot’s smash hit, Game of Thrones Power Stacks.

A significant difference in this release is that the Power Stack feature triggers at random times instead of on every spin. Of course, you still need to trigger the Link&Win from inside the bonus round to squeeze the most out of the cash coins and jackpots, and the overall 25,000x potential is indeed higher than many competing installments. How realistic that figure may be is another question entirely, and we do not possess any info on the max win probability.

Pros

  • Random ‘super stacked’ symbols
  • FS w/ x2 multiplier and stacked wilds
  • Link&Win w/ jackpots up to 2,500x (or 5,000x)
  • Max win potential of 25,000x your stake

Cons

  • Beware of adjustable RTP ranges
  • Close to a reskin of Game of Thrones Power Stacks

If you appreciate Links of Ra Slot you should also try:

Game of Thrones Power Stacks - is a better choice if you’re after both power stacks and the Link&Win experience. The branded theme is superbly done (better than Microgaming’s own effort), and you get a super stacked symbol per spin. The bonus round and Link&Win features are the same as in the game at hand, and so is the 25,000x potential.

Amazing Link Apollo - takes you to ancient Greece instead of Egypt, and this SpinPlay installment is all about the hold-and-win style Amazing Link feature.

You can win jackpots up to 5,000x your stake, and you also have 3 bonus round options to unlock with up to 3 Amazing Reels per spin.

Assassin Moon - is a highly popular HyperHold installment from Triple Edge Studios, and the streak respins style feature comes with 4 jackpots. You can also look forward to jumbo blocks, stacked wilds and a bonus round with a 12,500x potential.
